Home-made Crayons

Here’s a great way to use up all those broken crayons.

1.  Preheat oven to 200°

2. Take out any broken crayons, tear of excess paper, and divide them by color. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, mix colors for fun, multi-colored crayons.

3.  Place the broken crayons in a molded, silicone tray (any shape will do).

4.  Place the silicone pan on a cookie sheet in the oven for 20 minutes or until melted.

[Note: ours took a little longer to melt, but many of our broken crayons were jumbo sized]

5.  Let the pan cool for 15 minutes and gently pop the crayons out of the tray.

Pee-Pee Tee-Pee

Diaper changing a baby boy in your future? Don’t want to get hit with a fountain?
Be prepared with a Pee-Pee Tee-Pee!

To Make, You’ll need:                                                             

1 receiving blanket, or soft fabric
scissors
ribbon
sewing machine, or needle and thread
butter lid as pattern

To make:
cut circles in fabric, using lid as guide or about 3″ diameter.
Layer two circles, then cut from side to center point.
Bring one side over the other and form a cone.
Position ribbon as a loop at the top of the cone.
Stitch together along edges to secure.
To use:
When changing baby boy, cover his pee-pee with the tee-pee. Wash after use.

Make several from one blanket.

Bean Box

This is a great, mostly non-messy activity that keeps kids busy for a long time

You’ll need:

  • Large plastic container with lid
  • dry beans (whatever is cheapest) – enought to fill bottom of conatiner and then some
  • plastic beach toys; scoop, funnel, rake, cup, etc.
  • kids old enough to know not to eat the beans

To play:
Put beans into container, add toys. Have kids play with the beans inside of the container.
Kids will spend hours in front of their ‘bean box’, scooping and pouring.
Clean up: Snap on lid and store bean box in a cool dry area. Sweep up run-away beans.
