Remove Plastic Dishware Stains

Plastic bowls get stained, and look gross. Here are 5 ideas to remove those stains.

1

Combine 2 tbsp. baking soda with 1 quart warm water and stir well until the baking soda dissolves. Pour the mixture into the stained plastic bowl, and swirl around with your hands. Allow the mixture to stand for 15 to 30 minutes. Pour out the liquid, rinse and dry the bowl.

2

Dip a basting brush in lemon juice and paint the stained area of the plastic bowl with a thin layer of the liquid. Place the bowl in full sunlight and allow it to remain for a few hours to several days, depending on the severity of the stain. This process bleaches away even the toughest stains from plastic containers.

3

Mix together 1/4 cup powdered dishwasher detergent and 1 cup warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the mixture and scrub the stained area of the plastic bowl for two to three minutes. The concentrated detergent will remove most stains from plastic containers. Repeat as needed, dipping the cloth back into the liquid once every few minutes. Rinse with cool water.

4

Add 1 tbsp. chlorine bleach to a basin or sink filled with 1 gallon warm water. Soak the stained plastic bowl in the solution for 10 to 15 minutes. Put on rubber gloves to protect your skin and remove the bowl from the liquid. Wash in soapy water and rinse in cool water afterward.

5

Use a plastic-cleaning dishwasher additive if no other method works to remove the stain. Purchase a plastic booster at your local supermarket or drug store, and use according to the manufacturer’s instructions for the best results.
