Pet urine odor has its own problem, namely gravity.  Not only does the carpet get saturated with urine, but as it soaks through the carpet, it also soaks through the carpet cushion or pad.  Pet urine stains on carpet should be removed as early as possible. Stains that have appeared within a couple of hours can often be cleaned with good success.  This can be accomplished by taking immediate action.  Blot up the urine immediately, then make a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water.  Apply the solution with a spray bottle. After this, absorb the spot with clean white colorfast towels until it is as dry as possible.  Next, place a one-half inch thick weighted layer of colorfast (white) towels over the spot and let it sit overnight.  This final procedure must not be overlooked, since crystallized urine residues left in the carpet are capable of reproducing odors during the warmer more humid months.
