While you’re teaching your kids about labor day and why they get a day off of school… also talk about what kind of jobs they want to have as a grown up. Maybe one of them wants to wear a tool belt. Make a practice one out of paper!

Pool Noodle Fishing Game
In the pool or out of the pool, this is a fun little game! Younger kids can practice picking up the ‘fish’.. For older kids, write letters or numbers on the ‘fish’ and the kids have to pick them up and make a word, or pick them up in number order – fun!
Bread in a Bag
First it’s fun – then it’s bread – WIN!
1 gallon sized resealable plastic bag
3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 packet yeast (rapid rise or regular)
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon salt (this can be to taste)
Magic Carpet Cat Hammock
Purr-fect way to re-use an old towel!
- an old towel you can fold in half or into a third (like I did), make sure you use one that will look ok in your living room if you plan on hanging it in plain sight
- some zpagetti yarn or other yarn that is strong enough to hold the whole thing (including your cat) up
- a crochet hook
- a pair of scissors (a knife is optional)
- a big comb for making the tassels, but you could just as easily use your hands
- elastic bands for the tassels
- a coffee table you can hang the hammock from
- if you can’t attach the hammock to something underneath the table, you will have to put 4 sufficiently strong hooks into the bottom of your table or into the sides of its legs
