Lots of Circles Baby Blanket

This is a Doitandhow original – I made this for a friend who is becoming a grandmother. It’s so soft and the design turned out just as I had planned – stitched circles show from both sides of the blanket. Her grandson will look so cute wrapped in it!

To make this you’ll need:

  • 2 yards of complimentary fleece fabrics (I used 1 full yard of the stripes and cut the grey in half)
  • 3 colors of matching embroidery floss (1 skein each) and sharp embroidery needle

Cut the yard of outer fabric in half – one for the top and one for the bottom (makes a nice receiving blanket size). Cut center fabric to fit inside. Use a plate and a cup to cut random circles in only the outer fabrics. I used a rotary cutter on a cutting mat. Then pin all the layers together (Stripes went on top and bottom, grey sandwiched in the middle). Use embroidery floss to sew thru all three layers around the circles, making sure that the knots are hidden in between the layers.

You’ll end up with stitched circles randomly on top and bottom showing through. For the edging I trimmed the center material back a bit and just did stitching along the edges of the outer fabrics. (Honestly, because it was easier going thru 2 fabrics than 3.)

Hope you like it! -krisgo

p.s. If I make this design again, it will be white fleece sandwiched between a baseball themed outer fleece, and red embroidery floss – I noticed that the grey circles with the stitching looked kind of like baseballs!
