Colorful Recycled Growing Station
Spray some vegetable cans with outdoor paint. Drill a few holes in the bottoms for drainage. Screw them onto a post and fill each with soil and plants – fun little color-burst in your garden!

Self Watering Plants in Cut Wine Bottles
Finding a lot of cute pictures on pinterest for these. Can’t wait to make my own!
Here’s how to make one from a plastic soda bottle:
- Cut the bottle in half.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver and a hammer to punch a hole in the center of the bottle cap.
- Cut a length of yarn/string about 1′-1.5′ long, double it over and tie a loop on one end.
- Thread the yarn/string through the hole in the bottle cap so that the knot is on the inside of the cap.
- Add potting soil and seeds…
- You need to water the soil from the top the first time in order to make sure that it is uniformly wet and that the string also is wet.
Reasons Your Succulents are Dying
1. You are giving them too much water.
Succulents don’t need to be watered like your ordinary or typical houseplant. They are a type of cacti after all, so they can get by with less water and enjoy well-drained soil. The soil should feel cool and damp to the touch, but never saturated or watered down and NEVER muddy. You might want to mist the ground instead of feeding directly for best results.
2. The planting container is too small.
Did you find a cute tea cup or flower pot for your succulent? Sure it looks nice, but does it give the roots the room it needs to grow? Probably not. The depth of the container should be twice as deep as the roots of the plant, while the width should be at least three times as wide. Doing this gives the plant plenty of room to spread out!
