Houseplants That Naturally Clean the Air

Much of the research on these beneficial houseplants has been done by NASA scientists researching ways to create suitable space station habitats. All indoors plants (flowering or not) are able to purify indoor air to some degree through their normal photosynthesis processes. But some were found to be more beneficial than others in removing harmful household toxins, even removing 90% of chemicals in the air in only twenty-four hours!

The three main household toxins of concern are:

  • benzene
  • formaldahyde
  • trichloroethylene

These carcinogenic chemicals are used in the manufacturing of synthetic substances and materials and are off-gased from new materials for some time (up to several years, depending on the material of product in question). Benzene can also be emitted from gas ranges during use, making some types of houseplants below great for use in the kitchen.

Homemade Non-Freeze Ice Pack

Mix 1 part rubbing alcohol with 3 parts water in a ziploc bag and put in the freezer.
(The alcohol will prevent the water from freezing completely.)
When it’s frozen, wrap with a towel or cloth of some sort and apply.
If the mixture freezes, just add a little more alcohol.  If it’s too slushy, add a little more water.

Check out what onegoodthing’s Jillee does with this! You’ll love it – think custom cover and colored ice!

Get Rid of Dry Scaly Feet

How to Get Dry Skin Off The Bottom of Your Feet thumbnail
From This to That

Do you have dry, scaly feet? If you live out in the West or anywhere else where it is dry, I am sure you do. Take these steps in getting rid of them.

Things You’ll Need

  •

    Warm Water

  •

    Epsom Salt

  •

    Toothbrush (hard)

  •

    Emery Board

  •

    Vitamin E oil

  •

    Socks

    • 1 First get a bucket of warm water, not to hot, with a cup full of epsom salt. Allow salt to dissolve before placing your feet inside. Once the salt has dissolved, place your feet inside of the water, allow to soak for up to 30 minutes.
    • 2 Remove feet from water after 3o minutes. Scrub gently with toothbrush to remove all loose, dry skin. This only takes a small amount of time. The skin should be very easy to remove. Rinse feet with water and pat dry with towel.
    • 3 Once you have removed the excess dry skin, take the emery board and gently go back and forth on the area that is affected. Keep doing this until there is no more dry skin. Once again, rinse feet and pat dry with towel.

    • 4 Once you have done all the steps above. Take the Vitamin E oil and rub on the affected areas, or all over your feet. Put socks on to keep the oil on your feet. Repeat process for at least five days. Please note that it must be vitamin E oil, not cream. via

Homemade Foot Soak and Detox

Reblogged from an apple a day wisdom: Within reason and limit, I try to do natural things that are naturally good for my body.  When I can find something really good for myself that I can do inexpensively from home, I get so excited.  This homemade foot detox bath is one of them.  The ions in the salt work as magnets to draw toxins through the skin of your feet out of your body into the foot soak water.

I love this recipe so much I have made up individual pouches and 3 time use jars of the mix to giveaway to

friends and family as gifts.

Here is what you do:

Ingredients:

1 Cup Sea Salt

1 Cup Epsom Salt

2 Cups Baking Soda
