Funeral Sandwiches / Hawaiian Baked Sammies

Undoubtedly, these got their name from banquets held after funerals. But you could make up your own name… Like.. Hawaiian Baked Sammies… yeah let’s go with that… *title updated* !!

1 package of King’s Hawaiian Rolls
1/2-1 lb. good ham deli meat
Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
1/2 c. butter, melted
3 T. worcheshire sauce
2 T. mustard
2 T. brown sugar
dash of onion powder
METHOD:
1. Cut the rolls in half and line the bottom of a baking pan with the bottoms of the rolls. Layer the ham slices, then cheese and place the top half back on.
2. Mix together the butter, worcheshire, mustard, brown sugar and onion powder. Pour the whole works over the buns, drenching each one. Cover tightly and marinade anywhere from 4-24 hours.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 15 minutes, uncovered,or until cheese is melted and bun tops are a bit golden.

  1. This recipe looks amazing….and SO EASY!! It calls for mustard but doesn’t specify whether it’s yellow or brown mustard?

  2. Other recipes I have seen used brown or dijon mustard. Minced onion can be added to the sauce. Although the recipe calls for marinating overnight cooking them right after making them and adding the sauce also works. I first made them for a celebration of life event, they were not only a hit but have become a favorite at home.
