Flowers can be left between the pages of a heavy book. While this distributes enough weight and can hold many blooms, it is not the ideal way to preserve flowers. Older flowers can fall out of the pages as you open the book to add new ones. If you do not line the pages with additional paper, the blossoms could stick to the pages, leaving behind stains and even tearing the flowers as you take them out.If you choose to press flowers in a book, do so only as a temporary method. Place the flowers between pages and mark those pages with a slip of paper. Do not press down to flatten the blossoms, as this will encourage sticking, but simply close the book over the blooms. Transfer within a few days to a more sturdy press.
Cardboard Press

A simple press can be made using cardboard, lining paper and rubber bands.
Good material for lining paper includes parchment paper or waxed paper, as the flowers are less likely to stick to the surface of the pages. Plain paper or brown butcher paper can be used, but the blossoms are more likely to stick. Newspaper is not advisable, as the ink could come off and discolor the blooms.
To form a cardboard press, place the flowers between squares of lining paper and sandwich the lining paper between squares of cardboard. You can repeat this layering as many times as necessary for as many flowers as you need to press. Always place the flowers between the lining paper, to prevent sticking, and the lining paper between cardboard, to add structure and weight. Secure the press with large rubber bands, arranging the bands evenly across the cardboard for even weight distribution.

Plywood Press

A plywood press uses the same structure of layering lining papers and cardboard, but adds an outer plywood shell. The top and bottom squares of plywood need holes drilled into all four corners to place bolts or screws. Wing nuts hold the bolts in place. The finished press looks like a miniature table, with a plywood top and bottom and bolts as legs.This plywood press requires more effort than the cardboard press, but its construction produces more even weight distribution and a sturdier press.

Braided T-shirt Bracelet
You’ll need:
- Cotton or jersey T-shirt you don’t mind cutting up. Or you can pick up a shirt at Goodwill. White and grey make good base colors for pastel or neon cord.
- 1 yard of rattail cord for each bracelet. You can find lots of fun colors at JoAnn’s for 50-99 cents a yard.
- Magnets. I got a package of 10 for $2.
- Glue. Either hot glue or tacky glue or both.
Instructions:
1. Cut the shirt into 3 strips roughly 1-inch wide and about 12 inches long. But don’t stress cutting this precisely. The ends will roll in so you don’t need it to be pretty.
2. Cut the rattail cord into 3 10-inch pieces.
3. Anchor the top with a bobby pin or rubber band, separate into 3 strands, and start braiding.
4. When you get to the end of the braid, snip the ends, bunch all of the pieces together, and glue on the magnet.
5. Do the same to the other end. Wrap it around your wrist and make sure you have the right length before attaching the second magnet.

Gorilla Poops
No-bake sweet treats! Yummy goodness -from sixsisters
Mix and bring to a boil:
– 2 Cups sugar
– 2 T butter or shortening
– 2 T cocoa
– 1/2 cup milk
Take off burner and add:
– 1/4 tsp salt
– 1/2 tsp vanilla
– 3/4 cup peanut butter (crunchy or creamy)
Mix well until peanut butter is dissolved.
Quickly add 2 cups of quick uncooked oatmeal and mix. Drop from spoon onto wax or foil paper. Let cool before eating.
Wasp Trap
Reblogged from Prairiestory. Ok… this is kind of gross, but clearly it works. Once the wasps go in the bottle they can’t figure out how to get out so they get trapped and die. This will minimize wasps, but the only way to eliminate them is to remove their nest or kill the queen.
1) Cut the neck off a plastic pop bottle.
2) Remove the bottle cap and flip the neck upside down and place it in the bottle opening that you just cut.
3) Tape together using packing tape or duct tape.
4) Bait the trap. The easiest is sugar and water, but I’ve also read that meat works well in the spring and early summer because wasps are attracted to protein, or other options are sugar and water, water and vinegar, beer, soda, even laundry detergent. Adding petroleum jelly or cooking oil along the steep edges of the trap can cause them to lose their footing and fall into the hole.
5) Hang the trap by either taping a string to it, or affixing a screw that you can use to hang.
6) Empty the trap – but first make sure the wasps are dead by pouring boiling water in or freezing. Personally, I’ll just dispose of entire trap and make a new one.

One last note, be mindful where you place the trap as living wasps will be attracted to it. Place a distance from where your kids or pets will be spending time.

Prep balloons ahead of time, insert a note with the different activities you’ve planned into each one before blowing them up. Write times on the balloons with permanent markers. Then when that time hits- pop the balloon and do the activity!
Some ideas: bake cookies, play a game, paint nails, sing a song, eat cake, open a present, etc…
